My wife and I have two girls, 6 and 4, which means one or two kids’ parties most weekends. Every one needs a present: a quick dash to the shops, or something generic from the stash. Either way, it’s a guess.
Then our own girls’ birthdays come round and the guessing comes home. A pile of presents, forgotten in weeks, some broken and binned, the rest in the regift drawer. Worse, the presents had become the focal point of the party, not a celebration of friendships.
So I built Gifted. Guests contribute a little toward what the birthday kid actually wants, from their phone, no shopping needed. At our daughter’s party that meant Yoto cards, a new scooter and a helmet, with the rest in her savings account. But what she still treasures most are the handmade cards from her friends. The gifts became tokens of amplified acts of kindness.

Cheers, Al
